Supporting families through their orthopedic journey.
Hip Hip Hooray Ortho Fund was created to support families whose children have been diagnosed with hip dysplasia by providing access to resources, information, and guidance to help them navigate their journey. As our fund has grown, so has our vision. We have expanded our resources to support families throughout their orthopedic journey, helping them feel informed, supported, and less alone as they navigate the challenges that can come with an orthopedic diagnosis and treatment. Our goal is simple: to ensure families have the resources, support, and guidance they need, every step of the way.
In 2016, our daughter, Lydia, was born with hip dysplasia. At just 10 weeks old, she was placed in a pelvic harness for 17 weeks, followed by another 35 weeks in an abduction splint. Surgery was an ongoing discussion from the time of her initial diagnosis. In 2019, we were given the wonderful news that Lydia’s hips had improved and that she would not require surgical intervention. Then, in 2021, during her annual follow-up appointment at the Stollery Orthopaedic Clinic, we were told that Lydia would require hip surgery. Without correction, she could develop a limp and potentially require a hip replacement in her 30s. In 2023, at six years old, Lydia underwent corrective hip surgery. After spending five weeks in a spica cast, she faced the challenge of learning to walk again. And then, just as she has done throughout her journey, Lydia hit the ground dancing! Today, Lydia is living a healthy, active life. Early detection, ongoing treatment, and the specialized care she received through the Stollery Children’s Hospital have made a tremendous difference in her journey. We are incredibly grateful to have had access to the care, resources, and support that helped guide our family through such an uncertain time. It was through Lydia’s journey that Hip Hip Hooray Ortho Fund was born, with the hope of helping other families feel informed, supported, and less alone throughout their own orthopedic journey.

Learn About HippieThe Lemonade Stand idea came from wanting to find a fun and meaningful way to give back to the Stollery. When we learned that we could host a lemonade stand and have the proceeds support an initiative created by our family, it felt like the perfect opportunity to make a difference.
We wanted to use the fundraiser not only to raise money for the Stollery, but also to raise awareness about hip disorders and help support other families who may be facing similar challenges. What started as a simple idea has grown into something our family looks forward to every year and a meaningful way for our community to come together.
Each year, we are fortunate to partner with our local Starbucks, Evoolution Oils, and, in recent years, Sherwood Motors through their Cars & Coffee event. Their generosity and support have helped us raise funds, spread awareness, and bring our community together in support of the Stollery and our initiative.
We started our Lemonade Stand in 2022, and we have been incredibly grateful for the support we have received each year:
2022: $1,672
2023: $2,204
2024: $1,517
2025: $1,487
Total raised to date: $6,880
In 2026, we were away and unable to host our Lemonade Stand as usual. However, we still wanted to continue our tradition of giving back. This upcoming weekend, we plan to make a donation to the Stollery in celebration of Lydia’s birthday.
